SPECIALISED ONE-TO-ONE PREPARATION COURSES FOR IELTS, TOEFL AND CAMBRIDGE

Our ONE-TO-ONE ENGLISH FOR EXAMINATIONS IMMERSION COURSE will appeal to those who wish to improve their English for examinations such as the respected IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge English examinations. These exams are recognised by employers, colleges and universities all over the world. The examinations, all of which test the four language skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, can be taken at specific times during the year.

The IELTS test is described as 'the high-stakes English test for study, migration or work' by the organisers. It may be taken as a General or Academic test depending on one's objectives. The Academic test is appropriate for those non-native English speakers who wish to study for a post graduate qualification at university and is the standard for entrance purposes. The TOEFL and Cambridge English are similarly described by their organisers as essential for entrance to academic institutions and for work purposes.

We will prepare you for your examination and assist you with all components - Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Our tutors have a wealth of experience in presenting courses for IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge exams.

Remember our courses are One-to-One and you are the only student. Only in this way can you be guaranteed a course that meets your needs and expectations. We can say without contradiction that an English language immersion course is the ideal way to prepare for the Speaking component of the test. Our tutors have experience of being examiners for various organisations and are ideal tutors for your course. You will benefit from their long experience and advice which will help reduce stress levels to the absolute minimum.

While we do not generally make boasts about our courses - humility plays a large part - we can claim that all our IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge exam students have greatly improved their exam performance to allow entrance to university, progression with post graduate degrees such as Masters and Doctorates and teaching careers within the academic world. In addition, we have successfully prepared many students for advancement within their professions outside academia.

As with all our courses, your specific needs will be identified and prioritised in the first lesson and the course will be designed to meet these needs. Our one-to-one method allows for continuous monitoring of progress and meeting evolving language needs so you can rest assured that your tutor will be flexible to ensure your course is relevant to your needs.

Obviously your course will focus on those areas in which you need to improve especially speaking and listening and of course good exam technique. In addition vocabulary development, good understanding and implementation of the rules of Grammar and Use of English, Reading comprehension and Writing are covered. Correct preparation for the relevant exams is essential and many of our students benefit from excellent preparation for specific areas such as speaking and listening which are difficult to practise without the assistance of a good tutor. You can decide with the advice of your tutor on those specific areas you need to concentrate on.

IELTS Examination: See IELTS website

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination is the most widely recognised qualification for entrance to British, Irish, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian universities, as well as other secondary education institutes and vocational and training programmes.

For university entrance, candidates need to take the Academic Module; for certain other types of education and training, the General Training Module may be more suitable. In both the Academic and General Training Modules, the four skills tested are Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The Listening and Speaking tests are the same for both versions, while there are differences in the Reading and Writing tests.

IELTS ACADEMIC

The IELTS Academic test is for people applying for higher education or professional registration in an English speaking environment. It reflects some of the features of academic language and assesses whether you are ready to begin studying or training. This approach is widely supported by the institutions that recognise IELTS.

IELTS GENERAL

The IELTS General Training test is for those who are going to English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience or training programs. It is also a requirement for migration to Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The test focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts.

TOEFL Examination: See TOEFL website

The TOEFL examination is described by the organisers as the most widely respected English language test in the world, recognized by more than 9,000 colleges, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, the U.K. and the United States.

It may be taken as a paper delivered test (A formal exam setting) or via the internet.

PAPER DELIVERED TEST - A revised test is being introduced in October 2017.

VIA INTERNET - The TOEFL iBT® test, administered via the Internet, contains 100 percent academic content created by working with institutions to identify the English-language demands faced by non-native English speakers. It simulates actual tasks from classrooms — from comprehending a lecture to participating in discussions and extracurricular activities. Our researchers recorded examples of classroom teaching, study groups and student interactions at several institutions. They collected textbooks and packets from students’ courses and compiled their findings into a language database called a "corpus." The language used in the TOEFL iBT test closely reflects what is used in everyday academic settings. This ensures applicants are equipped with the skills students need in a higher education classroom. Students who score well on the TOEFL iBT test are prepared for success at your institution and to go further in their careers.

Information on all courses

Every course involves some work on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading and writing. In your language needs analysis you will discuss the approximate amount of time you would like to spend on the various language areas. Your tutor will of course give you professional advice but your wishes are always respected and taken into account in every course! Therefore the content and direction of your course is planned with you and only you in mind.

Lessons for all courses are 60 minutes each including a short rest period with your tutor and take place in the morning and early afternoon depending on the number of lessons you have booked. The exact schedule will be discussed and agreed with your teacher on the first morning; however, it is usual to have the majority, if not all, of the lessons completed in the morning. This schedule will enable you to maximise your free time to explore the city and surrounding area.

There will be a certain amount of homework assigned each day connected to the language covered. This provides a chance for valuable practice of what you have learned and allows your tutor to monitor your progress. The amount of homework assigned is agreed with you and should take no more than an hour or so to complete.

On the final day of your course there will be an opportunity for feedback and your tutor will recommend a strategy for future study when you return home. We invite you to keep in touch with us and your tutor as we are interested in your progress and of course hope to see you back at some time in the future.
